Our Gardens
The rose is also used at the Feast of the Assumption, or miraculous ascent of Mary into heaven. The rose is used in Italy in May. The Month of May, or Madonna's Month, was originally sacred to Flora, Roman goddess of flowers and of spring. The Rose is known, in English tradition as the Emblem of Mary and represents love beauty, hope, & unfailing love. When St Dominic instituted the Devotion of the Rosary, he recognized this symbolism and indicated the separate prayers as tiny roses. In our garden the Rosary supports are to be constructed with poles and chains to represent the Rosary. Rose Framework for Gold roses was constructed by John Sainsbury. The Bench of Contemplation was donated by Julie This garden was created with love and with the help of willing volunteers, who donated time, plants and materials & we hope that this garden will continue to grow and inspire all who spend time in it. The Palm grove is a symbol of victory and triumph, of success & eternal peace and also of Christ's Victory over death at Easter. Ashes of parishioners can be buried here.
