Faberge Egg

These photographs are of a Faberge egg exquisitely crafted from the egg of an Emu by William Barker and commissioned by Max & Betty Crowley and presented to Fr. Brian O'Loughlin on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee of ordination to the priesthood on August 31, 1999.

Faberge egg

The be-jewelled egg is surmounted by a dove representing the Holy Spirit. The front doors are embossed with gold fringe to form the Chi-Rho for Christ and the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet to symbolise Christ, the beginning and end of all things. A pictorial cross at the rear illustrates the five glorious mysteries of the Rosary. When the doors open, the inside panels show the crucifixion on the left and resurrection on the right. In the foreground is Jesus addressing Thomas, who moves from doubt to belief in the resurrection. His profession of faith is inscribed in the arch above: My Lord and My God.  In the background are gathered Mary and the Apostles.

May the Risen Lord reveal himself to you, moving from you any doubt and uncertainty to faith and belief. May the prayers of St. Thomas lead all who visit this website to Him who is the way, the truth and the life, the one in whom the Father is well pleased.
